Then it's off to Dijon with its elegant medieval and Renaissance buildings, your home for the night. Perhaps enjoy an evening stroll on your own. (B)

Hotel Mercure Dijon Centre Clémenceau or similar

Day 5

Dijon and Beaune to Lyon for Embarkation

A short drive this morning leads to the beautiful village of Beaune where two highlights of Burgundy await. Explore the astonishing world of France’s favorite condiment, Dijon Mustard. Visit the family-owned Faillot mustard factory and learn all about the many varieties of the original. Then, visit the Hotel Dieu, arguably one of the finest Renaissance buildings in the world. It is also one of the most fascinating historic museums of Europe. Continue to Lyon where the crew of the A-ROSA Stella waits to greet you with a complimentary rose for your cabin, as is A-ROSA tradition. Settle into your cabin and explore the ship before dinner. In the evening, the Stella will leave the port and take you on a panoramic cruise of Old Town Lyon. (B)

Day 6

Chalon-sur-Saône (12:00 PM – 10:00 PM)

After settling in to your cabin on the Stella and enjoying the morning on the river, your first stop is charming Chalon-sur-Saône. Known as the birthplace of photography, this historical and charming town welcomes you with its lively and relaxed atmosphere.

Day 7

(2:00 AM – 2:00 PM) Trévoux (6:00 PM – 7:00 PM) and Lyon (Arrive 10:00 PM)

Wake up in Mâcon, where much of France’s best chardonnay is produced. These local wines pair beautifully with regional dishes. The most famous dishes include boeuf bourguignon—a particular favorite of Julia Child—and Escargots à la Bourguignonne. Burgundy snails cooked in a flavorful combination of butter, parsley, and plenty of garlic are nothing short of magnificent. After a short stop in Trévoux, you’ll arrive in Lyon.

Day 8

Lyon (Depart 2:00 PM)

This morning wake up in Lyon with ample time to explore this beautiful city while the Stella stays in port. The old town “Vieux Lyon” features Renaissance houses and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is known for its highquality silk products and the Basilica of Notre- Dame de Fourvière, which sits above the city. Wander into town on your own, or perhaps take a bike tour along the river or use your onboard credit to enjoy a massage!

Day 9

Châteanuneuf-du-Pape (10:30 AM – 11:00 AM) and Avignon (Arrive 1:30 PM)

After a very brief stop in Châteanuneuf-du- Pape, this afternoon we will arrive in Avignon. You can find an extraordinary collection of monuments, and Avignon’s world-famous bridge, the Pont Saint-Bénézet, also known as the Pont d’Avignon. The wooden structure built in the late 12th century spans the Rhône between Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and Avignon, and is one of the few bridges to have ever inspired a hit song. “Sur le pont d’Avignon” has been a favorite amongst French children for centuries. Avignon will also be the starting point for an optional excursion into the lavender regions of Sault and Senanque. Purple as far as the eyes can see and a heavy lavender scent in the air, that is France at its best!

Day 10

Avignon (Depart 12:00PM) and Arles (3:30 PM - 9:00 PM)

Spend the morning in Avignon. The city is ringed by incredibly preserved 800-year-old stone ramparts; erected to keep the plague and invaders out during the turbulent Middle Ages. In addition, because of the Avignon Papacy when seven popes opted to reside in Avignon rather than Rome, the city is full of magnificent churches, art, and architecture. Next, travel to the colorful town of Arles, which you’ll be able to recognize in some of the world’s most famous paintings. Vincent van Gogh painted Arles in 187 of his works. Long before Van Gogh, the Romans had discovered Arles’ beauty and made it their provincial capital. The impressive amphitheatre is one of Arles’ main attractions; it is best explored on foot.

Day 11

Viviers (8:00 AM – 8:30 AM) and La Voulte-sur-Rhône (12:30 PM – 1:30 PM)

Enjoy your morning in picturesque Viviers. Located in the Rhône Ardeche region, the beautiful walled city is home to a cathedral dating back to the 12th century and an ancient bridge dating back to the 3rd century. You’ll also have a bit of time to visit La Voulte-sur- Rhône, a tiny town beloved by paleontologists for its extraordinary collection of fossilized Jurassic sealife.

Day 12

Disembark in Lyon and Depart for Home

It is time to say goodbye to the crew of the A-ROSA and return home from Lyon Airport.
